Die-cut tags are the perfect accompaniment to your product. They can be printed on either paper or self-adhesive stock and can contain a variety of information including price, care instructions, measurements, name of retailer/brand, etc. Their shape is cut out in the same way that you would punch shapes out of scrapbooking paper - hence die-cut!
Die-cut hang tags often have no purpose other than to serve as decoration when attached to whatever it is they are describing. For example, when attached to a coat in a clothing store the tag may tell you what brand it is by displaying the logo or name at the top of the tag, below this there may be size details, the material used (in case you need to know how best to clean the garment) and finally, care instructions. In high-end fashion, designers often use a stylized cutout shape which can be just as effective in showcasing your product.
Die-cut hang tags are most commonly used for clothing, but could also be useful for accessories such as shoes or handbags or even fewer tangible products such as jewelry e.g. engagement rings with a tag displaying the diamond grading certificate and retailer warranty, etc.
The most common type is a simple square/rectangular shape however die-cut companies have a wide range of styles from ovals and circles to more complex shapes designed specifically for garments, boots, bags etc. Tags are usually printed on card stock with only the edge of the shape being die-cut, this can be perfect for clothing e.g., cut along waistline to show off your brand label with no border visible
Alternatively,Custom tags may be die-cut all around which can expose more layers of information or result in a pretty design when multiple different colored layers are exposed
Tag shapes will usually custom-designed to suit your product or brand however there are pre-made designs available which you can choose simply by selecting the most appropriate shape. Custom shapes can be created in any style you specify but this will usually incur a higher cost.
Die-cut tags are often made of card or paper stock with no adhesive backing so that they need to be secured using either safety pins, staples, or simply tied on using string or ribbon. If self-adhesive is required then this is usually specified when purchasing your die-cut hang tags. Self-adhesive backings are often only suitable for a paper-based products e.g. clothing as heat sealing them to plastic/leather items such as handbags could melt the polymer and ruin the material (the heat sealer will melt the adhesive and create a white residue - yuk!)
Die-cut hang tags can contain any details you wish to provide including brand/retailer name, price, item name/type, measurements, etc. The most common type of die-cut hang tag contains size and price but when attached to clothing they are just as useful for displaying care instructions or washing symbols where appropriate. Further information such as care instructions is sometimes required by law e.g., in the UK buyers of wool products may require the retailer to state whether the wool product requires dry cleaning only (wool free from moisture) or if it is suitable for both hand washing and dry cleaning (90% pure new wool). These details are very important for consumers of wool products who may be unable to use certain methods of cleaning without compromising the integrity of their purchase.
Die-cut hang tags are most commonly attached to clothing items by safety pinning them onto the hem or neckline of a garment, alternatively, they can simply be tied on using ribbon or string e.g. attaching one side around the waist then tying the other side under the button holding it closed over your tag. If your product is heavy/bulky you could choose security taping - this is literally what it says, strong strips of tape which are wrapped around your item and secured at both ends with strong sticky adhesive ensuring it stays secure regardless of where you attach it on your product.
If attaching your hang tags by safety pin (or similar) you will need to consider the size of each tag, this is usually based on how far apart you want them positioned on the garment. For example, if your product has two main seams then it may make sense to attach your Clothing Hang Tags halfway between these points using the same measurement across both pieces of fabric (for waistbands this could be around 1.5cm above where they would sit naturally).Clothing Hang Tags
